i remember learning the three R's in school. REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE. we were told they were important in that order. now we have a huge push on Recycling, with ads and facilities everywhere, but no advertising money is wasted on promoting the more important R's. that's interesting.

the difference between piracy and stealing

"There is a big difference between what is now known as "piracy" and stealing. Stealing does constitute a direct loss of sales for a company. Stealing entails physically going to a store, taking something off a shelf, and walking out of the store without paying for it. In doing so, the thief takes tangible goods out of the store. It cost the company something to manufacture the packaging, to burn the CD, and to ship it to the store. Furthermore, the removal of that item from the store's shelf means that another potential customer may come in and find the shelf empty, in which case that potential customer will be unable to buy the product. The result of this is that the customer may end up buying a different product simply because the store was sold out of the original item. In this case, the thief has a direct, tangible effect on the revenues of a company.

Piracy is a totally different thing. With piracy, the pirate sits in his chair at his computer, looks on file sharing services for a copy of the full version of the software, and usually waits a few hours for it to download. It's true that the pirate is getting goods without paying for them, and that it's a morally unacceptable action. But that doesn't mean that he cost the company any money.

See, when a pirate downloads a full version of a piece of software, the pirate isn't leeching bandwidth from the company's servers. The pirate has to download the software from some other person who has already purchased it. So bandwidth costs because of the pirate are zero for the company. Furthermore, the pirate isn't depriving any other potential customer of the game: he has not physically removed a copy of the software from a store shelf. There's no loss of sale for the company there, either. Finally, the software company paid absolutely nothing for the packaging or manufacturing of the product. Given the nature of computer software, it was downloaded from someone else's computer; so no manufacturing was needed.

It could be argued that piracy amounts to lost sales because a pirate would be motivated to buy the software if he couldn't download it. However, given that pirates go out of their way to search the internet for pirated copies and to wait for the software to finish downloading, it's still highly unlikely that they would have ever bought the software, whatever the circumstances. Pirates don't want to go to the store, and they don't want to pay money for software. So this can't be legitimately construed as a loss of revenue."

beauty and the beast - three days of nonsense...

Disney's Beauty and the Beast won many awards, but it's one of the stupidest movies they've produced. i have my grievances against movies like Cinderella - which carries the moral that women shouldn't complain about their problems, because a Man will someday solve it for them - but this movie is ridiculous beyond words. the love angle is the goofiest i've seen of any movie. even live action crap like True Romance, where a comic store employee falls in love with a hooker and marries her the next day.

in this award-winning pile of garbage, the nerdy beauty of a small village sacrifices herself to the imprisonment of a "hideous" (though actually quite handsome and charming) beast to free her father. she then manages to take only 3 nights to fall in love with the monster (largely helped by his giant library and his uncanny ability to waltz).

let's review:

Friday Morning - the town sings about how they got the hots for this nerdy bookworm who dreams of reading a book about a girl who meets prince charming. (confidence issues?)

Friday Night - belle's father gets lost on his way to the science fair. it's not that far from the village, as he tells his horse, "We should be there by now" the atmosphere is dark because he's in spooky land

Saturday Afternoon - belle shuns gaston's advances then lets her fathers horse take her to him. she offers to take her fathers place as the beast's prisoner. NOTE- "come into the light" upon seeing the beast for the first time, she turns away, she thinks he's Hideous!

Saturday Evening - the town sings about how they got the hots for this self-absorbed douchebag who dreams of degrading the hottest girl in town. (confidence issues?) belle's father returns to exclaim belle is taken prisoner by "a beast! a horrible monstrous beast!" then gaston sings ...Again.

meanwhile - belle is invited to dinner, but she's being a twat, "i don't want to get to know him, i don't want anything to do with him"

Saturday Night - belle decides she's hungry after all (...) and her new friends tell her she's their guest, through the magic of song. then she walks around like she owns the place and discovers the beasts rose. it's really pretty but he gets all pissed and physically violent. belle runs off but is attacked by wolves. beast saves her life and she feels guilty for being such a bitch so she tends to his wounds.

Saturday Late Night - belle's father takes off to rescue belle alone while gaston plans to send him to the asylum. we know it's still the same night because gaston mentions her father was in the tavern "earlier tonight"

Sunday Morning - beast and belle are friends now, and he shows her his library. she's impressed that he's respecting her wild fetish and so she doesn't make a big deal of his table manners. then they have a snowball fight, and belle realizes, "...he's no prince charming, but there's something in him that i simply didn't see" all the castle folk sing about something that wasn't there before, but won't tell the little cracked cup kid the secrets of lust.

Sunday Afternoon - beast and belle continue their courting rituals with dining and dancing, while some lonely old lady sings about the type of relationship she will never experience again.

Sunday Evening - belle misses her father and runs off to save him from the snowbank he fell in on his way to the castle.

Sunday Night - belle brings her father home to face gaston and his angry towncrowd. they get all drunk on violence and march to the castle. beast doesn't even care because he's heartbroken. he misses his snookydoodle.

Sunday Late Night - belle and her father arrive just in time to see the beast decide to change his evil Rattigan mouth to a more human mouth and save gaston's life. the beast dies from a stab wound as time runs out before belle's magic tears of love can grace his face. but then the sparkly rain is all like, "just kidding!" and changes him back to human anyway. (thought not, also healing his stab wound... i didn't know that was in the contract. does that mean his gonorrhea is cleared up too?) also, the magic also clears up the neighbourhood so it's not always so dark and scary, as well as advancing time by a few hours so it's bright and morning-ish.

the main question - how long does this story take - is answered by another question.

how far is the beast's castle from the village?

it can't be so far that a bunch of drunk villagers can't walk there in the rain. but it's far enough that belle's incompetent father will pass out while walking there in the snow.

belle, the hot nerd with very specific tastes, falls for a monster overnight. of course, he's not much of a monster. glen keane mentioned he designed the beast with all these animal parts, but i think he meant to say, he designed the beast with all these famous male actor parts. he looks like a cross between Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton, Daniel Craig, and Pierce Brosnan.

six months ago i was still working on johnny test. during this show i drew a few things that i put up on a wall beside me. the contract ended and the wall came down. but here it is again for the first time! in internet form!!!

the avatar was supposed to be wearing an oakland athletic's hat, but i forgot how that looked... those girls were all over each other at a gay bar. i had no choice but to draw them.

just drew this in sketchbook pro. i've always liked drawing cyclops of the x-men which is weird because i've seemingly spent more time drawing eyes than anything else. so here's a guy without eyes.

also, i think it's fair to point out that i drew him with a skullcap, like he had in his early days with the x-men and x-factor. they recently brought back the skullcap in the comics after over a decade of him running around with hair exposed like he's friggin tom cruise or something.

glad to see it back. also glad they ditched all those military style pockets and straps. i was always hoping to see an issue where he pulls at least a band-aid or something out of one of the pockets. never happened. i'm pretty sure they were empty all along...

it's been a few months since i've posted anything and i've had some not so discreet requests to post some drawings or general anecdotes.

general anecdotes aren't really my thing, so i'll post some pictures real soon. until then, here are a couple quick stories about me peeing.

one drunken night in october, while i was at a urinal at a bar, some guy easily three times as drunk as i, turns to me, squinting, and asks, "hey, do you ever think about what was? or could have been?" and i replied without even thinking, "no, there is only what is." and in what i presume to be his best burnt-out 80's surfer bro impression, exclaimed, "whoa! that's deep!"

then a few weeks ago while using a washroom at a mall, i was standing at one of two urinals placed right next to each other and another guy comes in and stands next to me, shoulder to shoulder, and before either of us releases, he says, "boy, they couldn't put these things closer together."

i'm not one to have a problem with toilet talk, but without any quick reply on my mind, i simply shook my head and laughed with one quick short breath. then i waited the 70 or so silent seconds for him to conclude his business and wash his hands, and as soon as the door closed behind him, i finally was able to pee in solitude.

i'm also working from home for the next few months, so we'll see if i can't update this thing more often.

It's been a week since i finished working on Bruno and the Banana Bunch. it'll be on cbc this spring, and it will blow kids minds everywhere. if you have kids i'd recommend you keep a distance of at least 50 feet while they watch bruno.

it's like really cold outside. there isn't enough snow to warrant such extreme temperatures. i'd like to build the biggest snow fort in history this year.

i discovered the airbrush tool in sketchbook pro. so i used it. oh man. i used it like there was no other use.
rock it. that's like fan art from Naruto. (demographic: boys ages 6-11) while i hate the narrative style of storytelling plaguing most (all) manga, there are some pretty fun characters in this one. like a guy with a dog! and a fat guy! whoa!

i made it a new years resolution to draw for an hour a day this year. so maybe i'll post some entertaining drawings. until then, just enjoy the links i've set up. they are to some of the most stunning and influential artists of our time. as well as a few guilty buddy references thrown in for good sport! cheers!

not only does this guy have my name, but he half stole my friggin innernet idennnity. capital frig! that's a low blow! i'd wage war, but i lost all my friends after "the porcelain sheep incident". don't ask. (cause i made it up. i still have friends. surprise!)

i've got three more days animating on Johnny Test, then monday i've been assigned to start setting up characters on Bruno. Bruno is like, all the rage in my kitchen, when i go in there, everyone's like, "Bruno this!" and "Bruno that!" yeah it's pretty crazy. i guess i've got Some shoes to fill. high expectations and the like. sigh~ and i was just getting the hang of the Johnny Testicles.

other news, i'm moving this weekend. so yeah. if you want some free beer, rob a liquor store and bring me some please. pay respect to the man who gave you the idea, no?
excited to get into the new place, because it's got a) a balcony, b) new floors, and new paint, c) no earwigg infestation, and d) my bed. well... it will have my bed come saturday. or sunday. wheneva.

i was working on this scene for the upcoming show, [censored until it airs?], where the kids are pretending to put on seatbelts. i had them "put on" shoulder seatbelts but then got the order to make real seatbelts to get the scene past the CBC sensors. the director doesn't want real seatbelts so i had to change the scene so they were actually waistbelts and hidden by the front of the truck they're "riding" in. this way the cbc crew won't request actual seatbelts added to all the other shots as well. anyway, while waiting for the go ahead on that whole she-bang, i maded this. if you can't read it, don't worry too much. it's not funny.

this lady is neat. she's super cool too, so Watch out!

she once ate an entire pancake without butter, and has no qualms about attempting the feat again. her favourite colour is sunshine and her clothes smell like pears. last week i saw her totally serve this ghetto crew. they were all like listening to music and stuff outside of the school, and she came jogging down the sidewalk in a track suit. when she heard the tunes, she approached the boys, and went wild. her wicked hot dance moves inspired the boys to go to college.
